This originally appeared at The Griddle back in 2006. It has been edited to make the time references up to date and I eliminated some typos and syntactical errors. Today would have been my mother’s birthday. Although it doesn't seem like it was a long time ago to me, back in October of 1977, I experienced a bitter disappointment. The Dodgers had made it to the World Series. I was excited beyond belief. Even though the Dodgers had been in the World Series in 1974, for some reason, I really wanted to go to this one in person.
Great story.
Was the seating for black children also segregated by gender? I have never heard of gender segregated baseball stadia before.
I was at a holocaust memorial today and thinking about my parents. This is a nice story to be reading right now.
